Topics Carson Gross
Join local mushroom enthusiast Carson Gross for a hands-on mushroom growing class. Participants will learn how to select appropriate wood species and use proper tools to inoculate logs with mushroom mycelium. After inoculation, logs take about 1.5 years to fully colonize and can produce fresh mushrooms for several years.
The class will also cover how to care for your log after inoculation and how to initiate fruiting so you can harvest mushrooms when you’re ready. This beginner-friendly class requires no prior experience with mushroom cultivation. Come learn how to grow your own fresh, delicious gourmet mushrooms at home!
Instructor will provide the following:
All materials needed for the process, including logs, tools, safety equipment, and wax.
Students are asked to bring:
Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes since we’ll work with heavy logs and hammers.
Skill Level
Beginner- no prior knowledge or skills required to participate
Age Requirement
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Students ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian in attendance as long as MMFS is provided with written parental permission by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
