Knitting stranded colorwork is like painting with yarn! Most knitters agree it’s easier to work stranded colorwork in the round than flat—but there’s one pesky challenge: that little jog where one round ends and the next begins. The jog happens because knitting in the round forms a continuous spiral—but now there’s a clever way to trick both your knitting and your eye to eliminate it. Mastering this pro-level skill is a huge step forward in your colorwork journey.
In this class, you’ll learn the technique while creating a custom-fit Fair Isle headband you’ll be proud to wear. The class size is small, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Learning new knitting techniques means building new motor skills, so come ready to be patient with yourself, ask questions, and—of course—enjoy the process!
Your instructor will provide the following:
The instructor will provide a materials kit that includes two lovely contrasting skeins of soft wool sufficient to make a headband that will be started in class. The kit also includes a helpful handout.
Students are asked to bring:
US Size 4 [3.5mm] 8” or 9“ circular needles (NOTE: I’ve always used double pointed needles, am super comfortable with them, and saw no need for tiny circular needles. Until now! For this project, I needed them! I highly recommend purchasing one of these extra-short circular needles. They really pay off, setting you up to succeed with this decidedly technical maneuver. Your results in class may not be as hoped without these specialized, short circular needles)
Several stitch markers
Pattern that you will purchase, download, print, and bring to class with you (NOTE: After you register for the class, you will be emailed a link where the pattern may be purchased. Current pattern price is $5.00. The pattern is not included in the materials kit.)
A snack and some water
