Kumihimo is a Japanese art of braiding or twisting cords and ribbons into intricate patterns.  The word “kumihimo” literally translates to “gathered threads”.

Sami artisans have been embroidering textiles and jewelry with spun pewter thread since the 1600s.

Join Katherine Buenger to create this beautiful necklace that joins these traditional craft methods together for this gorgeous piece!

Students will choose from a wide variety of beads, string the beads on c-lon cord and learn a Kumhihimo style braid made on a foam disc. After braiding the 5-6 inch focal for the necklace, students will attach tin thread to an end cap, twist to make an elegant chain and finish with a magnetic clasp.
