Sharp knives are safe knives—easier to use, easier to control, and essential for efficient food preparation. In this class, you’ll learn how to improve your knife-sharpening skills and how to recognize when a blade needs just a quick touch-up versus a full regrind. Participants will explore edge geometry, knife steel types, and various sharpening methods and techniques. You’ll also have the chance to test your newly sharpened knives and skills on real roots and fruits. There will be plenty of time for questions, demonstrations, and discussion—no dull moments guaranteed!

Your instructor will provide the following:

• sharpening stones
• some sharpening steels
• diamond hones
• rags for wiping
• bladed sources for sharpening kitchen knives

Students are asked to bring:

• apron
• their own kitchen knives
• sharpening equipment if they have it

Skill Level
Must have the hand strength for this class to open a sealed jar lid.

Age Requirement
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Ages 16-17 can register with parent permission (by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org).
