Dating back to the early Iron Age, card woven bands were used to create the starting and selvedge bands for warp-weighted looms. Decorative bands are also added to woven textiles along the hem line, and as belts and straps. In this class we will create bands approx ⅜-¾” wide and 24”-36” long. Students will have a variety of patterns and colors to choose from. By the end of class, students will have the understanding, skills, and resources to continue band weaving at home. This craft is beginner friendly and great fun!

Your instructor will provide all tools necessary.

Since your class runs over the lunch hour, we recommend you bring a lunch or click here to learn about local eating opportunities.

Skill Level
Beginner. Fine motor skills and good eyesight is required. No prior experience needed- I have taught this class to several ten year olds (with an additional adult helper). The ability to follow directions is helpful, but exploration is ok too.

Age Requirement
Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend this class. Ages 16-17 can register with parent permission (by email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org). Students between the ages of 10 and 16 may attend, but the student must attend with a parent or guardian.
