Topics Gabriella Isaac
Starting your own seeds can be confusing and stressful if you have never done it before but it is so rewarding! Starting nearly 10 years ago, Gabriella has come so far with her seeds and has learned from so many mistakes. She will be sharing tips that reduce the stress and unknowns most beginners face. Gabriella has found many methods of seed starting and organizing that have improved her garden and seed planting success and will be sharing them in this class.
In this class, students will learn to plant by the calendar, and about seed starting and transplanting. Students will be making newspaper pots, a seed starting mix, and one tray of planted seeds.
Your instructor will provide the following:
- A planting tray
- a pot-making tool to bring home
- newspaper for biodegradable pot-making
- 0.5-gallon mister for watering
- seed starting mix
- variety of seeds to plant in class
- cinnamon to prevent damping off and promote healthy growth
- seed catalogs and books to look through,
- resource list for local and sustainable gardening and seeds
Students are asked to bring:
- A blank 2025 wall calendar
- Sharpie marker
- Sandwich-size Ziploc bags (at least 10)
- A Tupperware or small bin to hold your seed packets
- A roll of blue painter’s tape
- Optional but recommended: seeds you want to plant at home throughout the sowing season, clothes that can get a bit dirty, or an apron if desired.
- As your class is scheduled over a lunch hour, we highly recommend you bring a lunch or click HERE to learn about local eating opportunities.
