Learn the ancient art of making yarn by hand using simple tools. In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll explore the basics of spinning on a drop spindle, transforming wool from soft fluff into beautiful, usable yarn. You’ll also have the chance to sample a variety of spinning tools from around the world. Whether you’re brand new to fiber arts or a seasoned maker looking for your next creative obsession, this class offers an accessible entry point into a craft humans have practiced for thousands of years.

We’ll begin with simple pencil roving to get a feel for the drop spindle before moving on to soft, locally sourced wool roving. After lunch, we’ll ply our yarn, explore basic wool preparation, and try out different spindle styles used across cultures. You’ll leave with finished yarn ready to knit, crochet, or weave into your next project.

Your instructor will provide the following:
Drop spindles, hand carders, wool, variety of additional spindles
