Curious about making your own fermented veggies at home? Join us for this hands-on class where you will learn about the basics and benefits of vegetable fermentation, the two methods used in veggie fermentation (dry-salting and brining), food safety, supplies needed and troubleshooting.
Our instructor is a local cookbook author and Certified Master Food Preserver.
Chop, salt and mix your very own small-batch of raw, probiotic-rich sauerkraut to take home. Each student will leave with one quart of hand crafted sauerkraut and the recipe.
Your instructor will provide the following:
- Jars, weights, airlocks for each student
- Produce, salt and other fermenting supplies
- Cutting boards for each student
- Knives for shredding cabbages
- Graters
- Large non-reactive bowls
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons
Students are asked to bring:
- Close-toed shoes
- An apron if they’d like one
- Hat/ponytail holder/something to keep hair out of the way
- No baggy-sleeved shirts
Instructor will also have her books for sale.
Skill Level
No experience required.
Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
