Amaze your friends and relatives when you wear this handwoven willow bark necklace basket that you created! You will use willow bark that the instructor hand-gathered and processed, along with waxed linen and a variety of beads as embellishments for the base. The fancy rim weave is really simple once you learn the technique, but the necklace rope will be a bit of a challenge, so you may not finish that in class. Don’t worry, though, you’ll get instruction and practice in class time and a pattern to finish the details at home. We will discuss the how and why of harvesting willow bark in the spring and harvesting other types of bark, too.
Your instructor will provide the following:
Instructor will provide a basket mold that can be used in class, a pattern, prepared and cut willow bark, waxed linen, and beads for embellishments.

- Bucket or dishpan for soaking willow bark
- Sharp embroidery scissors or fine, small basketry scissors
- Measuring tape
- Flat-head screwdriver or basketry packing tool
- Spray bottle
- Large bath towel
- Wear old clothing that can get wet
- Comfortable shoes in case you want to stand to weave
- Since your class runs over the lunch hour, we recommend you bring a lunch or click here to learn about local eating opportunities.
