Use linocut tools to carve your own rubber stamps and print them onto paper bags to create beautiful luminary decorations for the dark winter months. The source of inspiration and final design are entirely up to you—explore themes of light and dark, day and night, winter and warmth!
Each participant will receive a 4×5-inch carving block and will have the opportunity to print several paper bags to take home. Fill them with sand and candles, or use battery-operated lights to brighten your space. You will also take home your custom stamp to continue creating on your own.
All printmaking supplies are provided, though students are welcome to bring a printed image for inspiration. We will be printing with black ink on paper.
Your instructor will provide the following:
- Linocut carving tools
- Carving blocks
- Paper
- Printing ink
- Brayrs
- Mini press
- Hand printing tools
- Paper bags
- Pencils
- Other necessary supplies needed to complete the project
- A few aprons will be available for shared use
Students are asked to bring:
- An apron or some clothes that are ok with getting permanent ink on them
- Since your class runs over the lunch hour, we recommend you bring a lunch or click HERE to learn about local eating opportunities.
