Topics

This class explores the magic of plying by experimenting with tension, texture, and playful combinations of fibers. You’ll work with multiple plies and incorporate commercial threads while learning how different materials interact during the spinning process.

Together, we’ll dive into the fundamentals of creating spiral yarns, including:

  • Setting up your wheel for spiral yarns, working with both lacier and bulkier singles
  • Drafting techniques for creating intentional thick-and-thin textures
  • Plying methods for basic spirals, flame yarns, gimp yarns, and beaded variations

This class is designed for spinners who are ready to expand their skills, explore creative texture, and deepen their understanding of how structure and tension shape finished yarn.

Your instructor will provide the following:
All fibers for the class will be provided.

Students are asked to bring:

  • Your own spinning wheel or espinner. The school may have a couple but it is preferred you learn on your own.
  • A camera or paper and writing utensil if you would like to document your learning experience.

Since your class runs over the lunch hour, we recommend you bring lunch or click HERE to learn about local eating opportunities.

Skill Level
Intermediate. Experience spinning yarn on a wheel or espinner. Comfort in drafting a fairly consistent singles yarn.
