Challenge Yourself Series: Tricks for Knitting in the Round – Saturday, October 11, 2025

You will up your knitting game and become a master of illusion when you learn 3 methods for making jogless color joins for thick stripes or 2-row stripes. Plus, there’s even a mind-blowing way to make jogless single row stripes! (A little challenging, but worth it.) Learn a jogless cast on and smooth out your bind off as well. Learn how to avoid ladders when using double pointed needles and how to untwist a twisted join. There’ll also be a demo on how to knit an “in the round” flat, on fewer stitches, creating a small rectangular swatch. (Without long loops behind every row.)

Class size will be small and the atmosphere will be relaxed and friendly. You’ll be learning lots of new techniques, so be prepared to be gentle and patient with yourself. Be ready to ask for help when you need it. We promise to have plenty of patience because many of these tricks require more than one try.

Instructor will provide a materials kit that includes two worsted weight wool yarns sufficient to make a pair of striped fingerless mitts that will be started in class. One of the yarns will be the lovely Koigu Hand-Dyed Jasmine Merino wool, and the other will a contrasting solid color wool. The kit also includes a handout with instructions for the techniques learned as well as a fingerless mitt pattern Liz developed especially for this class.

Skill Level
This is a challenging class, most appropriate for intermediate level knitters who are comfortable with knitting and purling in the round, stranded colorwork, and who have completed a number of projects.

One set US Size 6 [4 mm] double pointed needles or circular needle long enough for magic loop, several stitch markers
