Learn the basics of botanical printing using the technique known as flower pounding. This process transfers natural dyes from plants and flowers onto fabric and paper using a hammer.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the foundations of botanical dyeing and gain the tools to begin your own practice at home. We’ll cover simple at-home mordant techniques for preparing fabric, as well as explore the best plants and flowers for flower pounding—sourced from local garden centers, farmers markets, or your own backyard. During class, you will create one project of your choice—a fabric bandana, farmers market tote, or tea towel—plus a handmade greeting card using this vibrant, hands-on technique.
