Learn to draw and get more out of your travels through the practice of moment sketching. This approach focuses on capturing a feeling or experience rather than perfect accuracy, helping you become more observant and deeply engaged with the places you visit. As the saying goes, the best way to learn how to sketch is simply to sketch—and this class offers a welcoming place to begin.
In this supportive and relaxed environment, you’ll be introduced to foundational drawing and design concepts such as line, shape, value, perspective, shadow, and composition. The focus will be on creating loose, expressive sketches rather than detailed drawings, allowing you to quiet the inner critic and draw from intuition. We’ll use the interesting architecture of local buildings in Marine on St. Croix as inspiration for our sketches, encouraging you to observe, respond, and draw from lived experience. No prior drawing experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to slow down and see differently.
