General Policies & FAQs

Cancellation Policy

Students who cancel their enrollment more than 14 days before the class date will receive a refund less a $20 cancellation fee to cover administration costs. In consideration of our instructors, students who cancel 14 days or less prior to the class will NOT receive a refund.

Certain classes may have different cancellation policies. When this is the case, it will be noted in the class description.

Classes without a minimum number of registrations may be canceled. If we must cancel a course, students will receive a full refund for that course. Please be sure that you are familiar with your class’s cancellation policy, and contact us if you have any questions.

Illness Policy

Our goal is to keep our students, instructors, volunteers, and staff safe during classes, so please stay home if you are sick. If you’ve been exposed to COVID/flu/other viruses, we strongly encourage you to wear a mask. We have masks available, if you need one.

With a consistent and continuous decline in COVID-related hospitalizations, we have updated our COVID cancellation policy to coincide with our general cancellation policy. We are unfortunately no longer able to offer refunds to those who have to cancel their class registration because they test positive for COVID. Students may transfer their registration to another person or offer the spot to someone on the waitlist (if there is one). Please email info@marinemillsfolkschool.org if you have any questions.

This policy was reviewed on October 2, 2023 by the MMFS Board of Directors.

Materials Fees & Supplies

Many classes will include an additional ‘materials fee’ to cover the materials used by students to complete their projects in class. This fee will be added to the class tuition. A breakdown of cost details can be found in every class description.

Student Ages

Unless otherwise noted, our classes are designed for and open to adult students (18 years old and older). However, we take our mission of encouraging intergenerational learning seriously, and so also offer classes designed for a combination of age groups. These classes will be identified through an ‘Age Requirement’ field on the class description and “Intergenerational” in the class title. Each instructor defines what the minimum age requirement is, based on the complexity of the class. Tuition rates may vary for adult/youth pairings, so please see the class description.

Community Events
Anyone under the age of 18 is welcome to attend MMFS community events (Knit Night, Dare to Repair, Bluegrass Jam Session, Beginner’s Bridge, etc.), with the exception of Open Carving, which is for those ages 18 years or older. Attendees ages 16 and 17 are welcome to attend without a parent or guardian when prior written consent from a guardian is provided to MMFS at info@marinemillsfolkschool.org. Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

All those registered for a class will be notified that class is canceled via email and text (to the phone number provided during the registration process) 24 hours before the scheduled start of class. Those without a cell phone will also receive a phone call. Participants are also welcome to email info@marinemillsfolkschool.org and check the website for more information. When possible, we will also post notices about canceling or postponing classes on our social media channels (Facebook and Instagram).

Depending upon the instructor’s schedule, a canceled class may be rescheduled for a later date. Students will have the option of receiving a full refund or being moved to the rescheduled class.

Classes

How do I register for a class?

On the class description page, click the Register button to begin the process.

How do I know if Marine Mills Folk School has received my registration?

Once you submit your class registration, you should receive a confirmation email from Marine Mills Folk School with the following information: Name, Date & Time of the class, Class Attendee name, address and email address, and amount paid for the class. If the class you have registered for is online, the registration will also contain the Zoom link for the class.

What if I don’t receive a registration verification email?

Often, emails from Marine Mills Folk School end up in a spam folder. To prevent this from happening, please add info@marinemillsfolkschool.org to your contact list. If you do not find your notification in your spam folder, your registration may not have gone through!  Please email info@marinemillsfolkschool.org asking for help in confirming your registration.

Can I be put on a waiting list for a sold out class?

Yes, we maintain a waiting list for each class. To be placed on the list, continue with the class registration, providing us with your name and other requested information. When you click “Continue,” you will be told that the class is full and asked if you would like to be added to the Waitlist. If you click “Yes,” and a spot in the class becomes available, we will reach out to you to see if you would like to join the class.

Please note: Being placed on the waitlist will NOT automatically register you for the next time we hold the same class. You must re-register for a class if you were on the waitlist and did not attend.

My class is online! When do I get the link for the class?

You will receive the Zoom link in the registration confirmation email and then again two days before the class starts. This Class Reminder email will include all the information you will need to take the class, including the Zoom link. Once again, if you have not received this email please check your spam folder.

I can’t find my list of things to bring to class.

Within the class description on our website is  a list of everything that you will need to bring to your class. You also will receive a reminder two days prior to the class that contains a reference list of everything you need to bring.

I can’t make it to the class! What is your cancellation policy?

  • Students who cancel 14 days or less prior to the class will not receive a refund – we make a commitment to our instructors and pay them for anyone who cancels within that 14-day period.
  • Students who cancel their enrollment more than 14 days before the class begins will receive a refund less a $20 cancellation fee to cover administration costs.
  • Classes without a minimum number of registrations may be canceled. If we must cancel a course, students will receive a full refund for that course.
  • Certain classes may have different cancellation policies. When this is the case, it will be noted in the class description.

Be sure that you are familiar with your class’s cancellation policy, and contact us at info@marinemillsfolkschool.org with any questions.
