Ever wanted socks that don’t felt, a sweater that doesn’t weigh six pounds, or a shawl with perfect drape? In this class, we’ll explore the unique properties of our local fibers and learn how to choose the right wool for your spinning projects. We’ll discuss different sheep breeds and the strengths of various wool types when planning a yarn or finished cloth.
Students will receive samples of several types of spinning fibers and have the opportunity to spin them during class. Prior spinning experience—such as making a single-ply yarn—is required. Bring your own tool: wheels, e-wheels, and drop spindles are all welcome!
