Have you ever wanted to carve something more than the traditional jack o’lantern? Something other than three triangles and a toothless smile?
In this class, students will learn pumpkin etching, a technique using sharp knives to create beautiful, detailed, glowing images. Students must bring a drawing or sketch of what they want to create with their pumpkin. It could be a scary Halloween image, a friendly face, or just a welcoming message. Perhaps your favorite cartoon character, emoji or simply a tombstone with your archenemy’s name on it.
Your instructor will provide the following:
- One pumpkin per person
- All necessary tools (etching tools are yours to take home for next year’s pumpkin!)
- Please wear clothing that can get messy or bring an apron
Students should bring the following:
- An apron, or wear clothing that can get dirty
- Since the class runs over the lunch hour, we recommend bringing lunch or snacks.
Age Requirement
Students ages 10 and older are welcome to attend this class. Ages 10-15 must register with another registered adult. Ages 16-17 can register with parent permission (by an email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org).
Skill Level
Students will use sharp knives and need a fair amount of hand strength.
