Learn to needle felt a realistic three-dimensional bird from Corriedale wool roving and apply lifelike characteristics using merino wool prefelt, merino wool roving, and wool hard felt. Learn finishing details for glass bead eyes, mounting, and hanging. Students can finish a cardinal that stands on its own, or mounts on a branch and hangs as an ornament. Several methods for making legs/feet will be presented. Participants will complete one bird in class; size 5” long by 4” high.
Learn needlefelting skills plus your finished bird will be a lovely holiday present or perfect for your own home!
Your instructor will provide the following materials:
- Corriedale wool roving
- merino prefelt
- merino roving
- wool hard felt
- 5″ x 5″ foam block
- 38 ga. and 42 ga. triangle needle felting needles
- wood needle holder
- sewing needle
- wire and finishing materials for legs/feet or mounting
- written instructions and resources list
Students are asked to bring the following materials:
- Small sharp scissors
- Eye glasses for close work
- Snacks or water, as there are no food facilities at the folk school
Age requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
Skill Level
Some needle felting experience helpful but not required.
