Join John Hanson, soap maker and owner of Longfellow Soap Company in Minneapolis, for a tutorial on making soap using the cold-process method.

Cold-process soap making has been around for hundreds of years. It’s a traditional method of making soap by combining fat or oil (animal- or plant-based) with sodium hydroxide lye, then blending in additional essential oils or colorants.

In this 2½ hour class, John will demonstrate the cold-process method in order to provide attendees with the knowledge and confidence they need to make their own soap.

You will take home John’s detailed teaching manual, which includes an ingredient list, equipment list, recipe, soap-making method, and resources for essential oils, ingredients, and equipment.

Attendees also will receive two bars of Longfellow Soap Company soap, made by John.

Lye is highly caustic, therefore, this class is demonstration-only. Class size is limited to 10 attendees to maximize interaction and instruction from John.

John Hanson has been making soap for 14 years and has been selling soap and teaching classes for 11 years. More than 500 people have learned the art of cold-process soap making from John.
