Intro to Talismanic Embroidery – March 16, 2024

Talismans are objects believed to be imbued with magical properties. They can guide, empower, and protect the user. This 4-hour Talismanic Embroidery class will delve into the rich history and intricate art of talismanic embroidery. The course is designed to provide a hands-on experience, allowing you to learn and practice various embroidery techniques to create a personal talismanic piece.

The class will begin with a short, guided meditation and list-making exercise after which you will decide on your talismanic image(s). The core of the class will focus on practical skills, guiding students through the step-by-step process of creating talismanic embroidery. From selecting materials and colors to mastering a variety of stitches, participants will develop a solid foundation in the craft.

While stitching, we will discuss the personal, cultural, and historical significance of talismanic embroidery, exploring its roots in different traditions. Throughout the class, there will be opportunities for individualized guidance and feedback from the instructor. Participants will be provided templates to select their talisman or may express their creativity by designing their own talismanic patterns to reflect personal meaning.

Your Instructor will provide the following materials:

• Embroidery hoop, needle, scissors, and floss
• Water soluble embroidery pen
• Linen embroidery fabric
• Embroidery patterns

Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.

Skill Level
Intermediate. Some prior knowledge of basic skills is required to participate.
