Topics Wesley Hathaway
Join Wesley Hathaway for an introduction to chip carving. The goal of this class is to provide you with the fundamental skills of chip carving to allow you to tackle projects on your own. During this two-day class, we will cover topics that include but are not limited to wood grain, sharpening, design/patterns, carving, and finishing. The first day will cover the hows and whys of chip carving with skill building exercises to foster confidence and competence. The second day will continue with skill building but with a small project that will be provided. If you have a project or idea, please bring them and we can engage them together.
This class does require hand strength and hand endurance. Opening up a new sealed jar can be an indicator of the required strength needed.
*This class takes place over two days: Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m.-5 pm. and Sunday, March 24 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Students are asked to bring:
- a good ruler
- a mechanical pencil
- a drawing compass
- any chip-carving tools, carving tools, and sharpening supplies you may have. Tools will be provided but there may be limited supplies.
- As your class is scheduled over a lunch hour, we highly recommend you bring a lunch or click here to learn about local eating opportunities in the area.
