In this class, students will learn how to prepare a skein of yarn for the dye bath, learn the process of aeration, deoxygenation, learn the Bain Marie method, and get the experience of watching the wool turn from its natural cream color to green to the final indigo color before their eyes! This dye bath is magical and fills students with awe each time we pull a soaking wet skein from the pot.
We will learn about the history of woad and efforts to control the spread of this invasive species. Each student will go home with a skein of wool for their knitting or crochet projects.
Your instructor will provide the following:
- Wool yarn
- Woad
- Pot(s) for dye bath
