Design Your Own Knitting Pattern: Scandinavian Mittens – May 4, 2024

You will learn a step-by-step process to create your own bespoke designs for Scandinavian-style mittens. We’ll begin by taking vital hand measurements and deciding upon a yarn weight. Next, you’ll choose your own preferences from traditional Scandinavian styles. Do you want ribbed or hemmed cuffs? Afterthought or gusseted thumbs? What about the fingertip shaping? Finally, we will chart and add our own motifs or make use of the traditional Scandinavian motifs. Show off your own interests in your mittens! (Pets, sports, music, books?)

There is a lot to consider as you build your own mitten design. You will learn everything you need to design your own mittens not only in class, but to be able to repeat it on your own at home. Most of you will leave class with a completed mitten design that includes directions on how to knit it. You will also receive handouts that include tips and worksheets to help you not only produce your next design, but to become a true mitten designer.

Class will be small and the atmosphere will be relaxed and fun. Ideas and information will be flowing! 

Students are asked to bring:

• Pencils and eraser
• tape measure
• glasses if you wear them
• water, coffee, or a snack

Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.

Skill Level
Students should have a basic understanding of knitting in the round, simple increases and decreases.
