The class will cover the art and science of keeping bees in northern climates. The class is designed for beekeepers who have established bees but are searching for more information.
Through demonstration and discussions students will learn the essentials for setting your bees to be successful in the spring into summer. Topics will include:
- Assessing the state of the colony be it the first or second year of your hive
- Prepping hive for honey flow
- Assessing strength of overwintered hives
- Techniques for splitting overwintered hives and swarm prevention
Students are asked to bring:

Skill Level
The class is geared towards new beekeepers and those with established hives so you can take the information home and apply it to your hives immediately.
Age Requirement
Students ages 10-15 are welcome to attend the class with another registered parent or guardian. Ages 16-17 can register with parent permission, which you can give with an email to info@marinemillsfolkschool.org.
