*This class has been rescheduled from its original date on April 6.*
After working many hours on your handknit project, give it the professional finish it deserves. As a former judge for knitting competitions, I have compiled instructions for the techniques you need to finish well.
This class will consist of plenty of demonstrations, with opportunities for you to try out skills on swatches. (Swatches will be provided, though you are encouraged to bring some of your own. If you have a project that needs finishing, you may bring it and practice some skills on that. Just be aware that your project will not be finished in class!)
Skills covered will be:
- Picking up stitches on vertical, horizontal and diagonal edges, and planning how many stitches to pick up (Think of buttonbands that are not too tight or too loose!)
- Five kinds of seams and the best applications for each
- Grafting (Kitchener stitch)
- Three kinds of buttonholes and planning buttonhole placement
- Three kinds of hems and how to make them lie flat, draw in, or flare out
- Weaving in ends
- Blocking
I love knitting students and welcome questions. Class will be relaxed and friendly. Each student will receive a folder filled with 12 pages of diagrams and instructions.
Students are asked to bring the following:
- Scissors
- blunt-tipped yarn or tapestry needle
- Swatches, if you have them
- As your class is scheduled over a lunch hour, we highly recommend you bring a lunch or click here to learn about local eating opportunities in the area.
Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner. (If you have knit several projects, you’re ready for this class.)
