Shibori is an ancient Japanese technique that involves folding, twisting, or bunching cloth and then binding it to create brilliant patterns.
In this class, you will learn folding techniques that utilize stitched thread as a resist. By stitching and folding fabric in certain ways, you will be able to create mesmerizing repeating patterns. You will dip the fabric into indigo dye and watch the pattern develop as it hits the air. You will be amazed at all the incredible patterns you can create!
Your instructor will provide the following materials:
- Dye vat
- Needle and thread
- Several pieces of cotton muslin fabric, which you can use to make napkins, pillowcases, journal covers, or other decorative items.
Students are asked to bring:
- You can also bring additional white items to dye if you like. Small items like baby onesies and shirts work best.
- We will wear gloves, but be sure to dress in clothing that can get blue dye on it.
- Bag lunch, as this class will go over the lunch hour.
