This class will explore spindle spinning with different breeds, using minimal equipment that can portably fit in a backpack. We will play with spinning different breeds and fibers from our local fibershed using handmade wooden drop spindles, which students will get to keep for future spinning.
We will experiment and play with fibers from local breeds including:
- Lennander, the alpaca
- Bert (chocolate) – the Romeldale
- Bert (ivory) – the Targhee/Rambouillet
- Naomi – the Jacob
Fibers will be pre-prepped; however, students will have the opportunity to play with modifying the fiber preparation method by restructuring the fibers with combs or hand cards.
Your instructor will provide the following materials:
- All fibers for the class
- A handmade wooden drop spindle to keep
Hand cards and mini combs will also be available.
Students are asked to bring:
- camera if it helps you document your learning experience
- paper and writing utensil if it helps you document your learning experience
Skill Level
No experience required, however, knowledge of beginning spinning on a spindle may allow you to explore the nuances and differences of each spin a little more deeply.
