Have you been thinking about learning to knit? Fall is the perfect time to do that, especially with a project that enhances your fall decorating. Once you make your first pumpkin, you’ll want to knit an entire pumpkin patch!
Students will start out learning the knit stitch, and will knit in the round. Those who feel ready will also learn the purl stitch as they work their way from the bottom of the pumpkin to the top. At that point, students will learn a simple decrease before finishing off the top of the pumpkin. Finally, they will stuff and shape their pumpkins before gluing on the stem.
Liz loves knitting students and welcomes questions. The class size will be small and the atmosphere will be relaxed and friendly. Learning new knitting techniques requires learning new motor skills, so be prepared to be gentle and patient with yourself as you learn, and be ready to ask for help when you need it.
Your instructor will provide:
- a materials kit which includes yarn, cinnamon stick stem, stuffing, and one printed pattern. (The skein of yarn is actually enough to make two pumpkins as pictured, each approximately 6” in diameter and 4” tall not counting the stem.)
Students should bring to class:
- US Size 13 [9 mm] circular knitting needle 16” in length
- 6 stitch markers (one of which is a contrasting color to mark beginning of round)
- small scissors
- large yarn needle
Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
Skill Level
No experience necessary. This is a beginner-level class, though it’s also appropriate for any knitter who wants to make a quick and fun project.
