Hardanger embroidery is named for the Hardanger region of Norway, where this style of embellishing clothing and home goods flourished. Students will create an embroidery design incorporating several traditional stitches and the distinctive cutwork that makes Hardanger embroidery so beautiful.
Stitches will include: kloster blocks, dove’s eyes, corner dove’s eyes, cable stitch, Algerian eyelents, woven bars, wrapped bars, and Maltese cross. Fabrics, needles, threads, and pattern reading will be discussed so students can make informed decisions when taking their skills beyond this project.
*Note: This class will run on consecutive Saturdays: June 3 and June 10
Your instructor will provide the following materials:
- fabric
- pearl cotton embroidery thread
- tapestry needle
- embroidery hoop
Students are asked to bring:
- sharp scissors
- magnifier/readers if needed
- We highly recommend you bring a lunch as this class does go over the lunch hour.
Skill Level
No experience needed. Prior experience with any type of needlework will be helpful but not necessary.
Age Requirement
Students ages 18 and older are welcome to attend this class.
