In this first class of the 3-part Wine Series with Spillery Creative, increase your ‘wine cred’ as you learn the history of winemaking plus sample a delicious wine flight that exemplifies the vast array of winemaking techniques and styles. Make it an evening with friends, or come on your own to meet others interested in wine. We’ll cover how wine is made, a brief history of winemaking, and discuss vessels used to ferment and age wine, from the ancient use of Amphora casks through various forms of oak barrels and barriques to current and future trends of stainless steel and even cement eggs. We’ll delve into winemaking practices, from barrel selection and blending to additives and the “natural” wine movement. We’ll also discuss France’s global winemaking influence and the new world’s divergence from tradition. You will leave with the confidence to select wines that match your own palate while finding new types of wines to try any day of the week!
