Punch needle rug hooking is quick and easy to learn, and once you know the basics, the possibilities of what you can make with this new fiber skill are endless! Remember hooked rugs from your great-grandmother’s era? While rug hooking used a small needle that was used to pull ‘hooks’ of yarn, the development of the ‘punch needle’ tool allowed users to push yarn and create rugs or other items more quickly and easily. There has been a rebirth of the craft with the development of the Oxford Punch Needle in Vermont – come learn and expand your fiber craft skills.
In this class you will learn the basics of punch needle rug hooking while making a beautiful 6 inch square trivet. Each participant will learn the stitches most often used by novices, overall technique, how to stretch fabric on a carpet tack frame, and how to finish a piece. By the end of the class you’ll leave with a hand-made trivet plus the fundamentals, tools and knowledge to continue your punch needle journey at home.
This class requires hand strength and participants with arthritis or wrist/hand problems may have some difficulty with the class.
