This advanced leather-working class will build on previously learned sewing skills, allowing students to create a larger, more complex project. Students who have previously taken Beginning Leatherworking will enjoy advancing their craft while completing a larger project.
We will focus on refining your hand-sewing technique for speed and accuracy as well as problem-solving during the construction process. Students will work from a custom tote bag pattern while being guided through the basics of leather design and construction – including the skills necessary to design their own goods.
You will be contacted about a week before the class to choose your leather (there will be multiple options available on a first come, first served basis, but colors and leather options not guaranteed). The tote bag is approximately 15” tall x 12” wide x 3” deep with a pocket that can be sewn on the inside or outside of the bag. Previous hand-sewing (saddle stitch) experience is strongly recommended. While the basics will be covered, the more experience you have, the happier you will be with your finished project.
Students to bring: reading glasses, if needed
