Learn to knit and take home a fun product also!  Remember enthusiastically knitting what was supposed to be a beautiful scarf that you planned to give a loved one, only to have some ugly thing at the end that you didn’t want to see again?  Those days are over!  With gentle guidance and time to practice, you’ll find yourself loving the craft.   Students will learn the knit stitch and produce a ‘yarn bomb’ for fun.  If time allows, the class will move on to purling, but at a pace that works for you.  Join us for a stress-free but loads-of-laughs class to learn something that perhaps you’ve wanted to do for a long time or to brush up on some basics that you already know but want a refresher.

This two-session class is on 2 Saturdays:  January 15 and January 26,  9am – 12:30 pm each Saturday.  The class fee covers both sessions.

What’s yarn bombing?  If you know, you’re clearly cool.  If the concept is new to you, you will become cool quickly, as the definition of yarn bombing is “the action or activity of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted material, as a form of street art”.   In this class, you’ll learn to knit and end up with a colorful knitted item that will turn into art!

Marine Mills Folk School is pleased to welcome Kirsten Skoglund, a beloved knitting teacher and former co-owner of ‘Lila and Claudine’s’ yarn shop in Mahtomedi, back home.

Kirsten will introduce several stitches during the first class period, as students begin creating their ‘yarn bomb’.  Students will then have an opportunity to go home and practice, returning the second Saturday for further guidance as they work on their knitting.    All gathered will then mutually agree on a later date and site for ‘yarn bombing’  to occur, once the weather has warmed up.

Students should bring:

  • Size 7 or larger knitting needle
  • Your own yarn (optional)
  • Fabric scraps (optional)

Class will be held at our winter location:  HWY North, 51 Judd St., Marine on St. Croix, MN  55047
