Learn to knit and yarn bomb the Marine Mills Folk School! Students will learn the knit stitch and if time allows, will move on to purling. Join us for a stress-free but loads-of-laughs class to learn something that perhaps you’ve wanted to do for a long time or to brush up on some basics that you already know but want a refresher.
What’s yarn bombing? If you know, you’re clearly cool. If the concept is new to you, you will become cool quickly, as the definition of yarn bombing is “the action or activity of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted material, as a form of street art”. In this class, you’ll learn to knit and end up with a colorful knitted item that will turn into art that is placed at River Grove Community School/Marine Mills Folk School in Wilder Forest. If there is not enough time or light at the end of class, students and the instructor will determine a future date and time to reconnect and install your yarn bomb in Wilder Forest.
Marine Mills Folk School is thrilled to welcome Kirsten Skoglund, a beloved knitting teacher and former co-owner of ‘Lila and Claudine’s’ yarn shop in Mahtomedi.
Students should bring:
- Size 7 or larger knitting needle
- Your own yarn (optional)
- Fabric scraps (optional)
