Join us for a ‘gateway class’ to the simple luxury of hand-knit wool socks. Students will leave with all the knowledge that is required to make basic, traditional socks from the cuff down! Using their choice of either double-pointed needles or the magic loop method, students will learn how to do ribbing, make a heel flap, turn a heel, pick up stitches and shape the sock using symmetrical decreases. Whew! Students will also learn how to custom-fit the sock to the foot.
Gone are the days of scratchy wool yarn! The materials kit supplied will include wool that is soft enough to use on the skin of a baby, plus a pattern. (Did you know that wool still insulates, even when it’s wet?) Students to bring own needles, yarn to be provided as part of the ‘materials fee.’
Students to bring:
- Own needles (Size 5 double points or magic loop circulars length at least 32″)
- Eye glasses, if needed
- Bag lunch
Students should be able to cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, SSK, and cast off. (Advanced Beginner)
Our Location: Marine Elementary School, 550 Pine St., Marine on St. Croix, MN 55047
