Have you wanted to try plant-based dyeing but didn’t know where to begin?
In this in-person outside class, you will learn about the what, why and how of plant-based dyes before trying it out using plant-based dyes grown right here in Minnesota!
We’ll explore multiple methods of plant-based dyeing including bundle dyeing, the practice of enclosing and steaming plants in textiles to extract pigment, along with whole-dyestuff vats using locally grown plants.
You will be provided with everything you need to learn with our fantastic instructor, Maddy Bartsch. Maddy has worked with textiles from the farm to the sewing machine and is excited to share her knowledge and love of the natural world with you.
No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome!
Students should bring:
- Apron (or old shirt etc.) and gloves

- Plastic bag to bring home dyed items
