During this class, you will learn how to weave a star ornament from birch bark!
You will learn about sustainable birch bark harvest, and gain a new appreciation for this local resource. Materials will be prepped for you, but you will also be provided a demo of how to prep those materials.
You will be shown several examples of what can be accomplished using this weaving technique.
Students who complete a star can learn how to make birch bark beads, which can be strung along with their ornament. This is a process with a learning curve- though it may feel clumsy at first, the end result is one to be proud of.
Additional star kits will be available for purchase for interested students.
Students to bring:
- Good pair of scissors
Your registration fee includes all supplies. Just add your creativity!
Please bring water/snacks and lunch if needed, as there are no food facilities at the school.
Please note: We’ve changed how each student pays for the material used during each in-person class. Each registration fee now combines the material fee and the instructor fee. We’ve made this change based on feedback from instructors and participants: instructors can focus more on teaching their class, and students don’t need to remember to bring the material fee to pay directly to the instructor.
NOTE: Be aware we may cancel class if a minimum number of registrations is not reached. We work to balance teachers’ need to plan for a class with students’ busy schedules — not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
General Age Policy:
All classes are for adults (18+) unless otherwise noted.
Class Minimums:
Be aware we may cancel 5 days before class date if a minimum number of registrations not reached. We work to balance teachers' need to plan for a class with students' busy schedules -- not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
