This is a two session class, spread out over one weekend, Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14.

Once you learn to brioche, you can truly declare that knitting is your superpower! Brioche is more than a trend; it’s a technique that’s here to stay.  And no wonder! Its light, fluffy texture is unequalled, it’s beautiful on both sides, and it creates a fascinating interplay of colors. Students will receive swatches on which to practice and learn, as well as handouts filled with practical tips. Brioche is a challenge but entirely doable with this step-by-step approach, and Liz loves, loves, loves answering questions.

Here are some of the skills you’ll gain through this class:

  • Two-color brioche knit flat
  • One-color brioche knit flat
  • Making a neat selvedge edge
  • Syncopation
  • Symmetrical increases and decreases

With extra information included on:

  • Casting on
  • Working brioche with one or two colors in the round
  • Binding off
  • And as always, helpful resources!

This class requires some prior knitting experience.  Students should be comfortable with the basics of knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, casting on, binding off, and should have a number of successful projects under their belts.

Marine Mills Folk School is excited to welcome back knitting instructor extraordinaire Liz Towers! Her encouraging approach and supportive classes have been missed by knitters across the St. Croix River Valley and beyond.

The material cost of $9 is included in the registration fee.  You will be working with Malabrigo Worsted yarn.  The instructor will bring needles and pattern to the class.

Students should bring to Class:

  • Small pair of scissors
  • Several stitch markers
  • Reading glasses, if needed

Please bring water/snacks, as there are no food facilities at the school.

Please note: We’ve changed how each student pays for the material used during each in-person class.  Each registration fee now combines the material fee and the instructor fee.  We’ve made this change based on feedback from instructors and participants: instructors can focus more on teaching their class, and students don’t need to remember to bring the material fee to pay directly to the instructor.

NOTE: Be aware we may cancel class if a minimum number of registrations is not reached. We work to balance teachers’ need to plan for a class with students’ busy schedules — not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
