Looking for the perfect Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift idea? Give your loved one the chance to build their own custom fishing rod, specific to their fishing style, and a work of art besides! Imagine the excitement the first time they cast their customized fishing rod and hook a fish!
This is an intensive class over 3 days: Friday, April 26, 6pm-9pm, Saturday, April 27, 9am-5:30pm, and Sunday, April 28, 10:30am – 12pm, resulting in a technically perfect fishing rod up to 7 feet long. Students will learn how a modern-day carbon fiber fishing rod is built, proper cork reaming, how to attach handles and reel seats, find the rod’s spine, determine proper guide placement, how to wrap the guides with thread, how to properly apply a decal and epoxy finish. Professional rod builder Chet Kiekhafer will encourage and guide students as they build a sensitive, well-handling rod perfect for catching the big ones on your favorite lake or river.
Each rod requires a significant material investment. There is a deadline for class registration of March 25 – students MUST register by March 25 for the April 26-28 weekend class, in order to have enough time to order components. Students will then be contacted by our instructor Chet to help determine what materials should be ordered. Students will need to provide a credit card number for the pre-purchase of rod components, which will then be waiting on the first day of class. Our standard policy for class cancellation (no refunds if cancel 14 or less days before the first day of class) will apply, if the student must cancel, the rod components will be mailed to them.
This class involves a significant time and material investment, but it is so worth it! Visit https://www.crowrivercustomrods.com/testimonials to see what people are saying about Chet’s rods and their effectiveness – each student will be bringing home their own custom rod and creating their own testimonials!
Students to bring:
- Work gloves
- Work clothes that can get epoxy and dust on them
- lunch for each day
General Age Policy:
All classes are for adults (18+) unless otherwise noted.
Be aware we may cancel 5 days before class date if a minimum number of registrations not reached. We work to balance teachers' need to plan for a class with students' busy schedules -- not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
