Skill Level: No experience necessary

Do you have a beloved garment that is a little worse for the wear and could use some sprucing up? Or do you want to add interest to a plain garment? There is no better way to reinforce a worn area or add visual interest than with Japanese Sashiko stitching. A Japanese stitching technique born out of necessity, boro cloths carry the beauty of the many repairs and stitches that embed a unique story into the textile while adding strength, warmth, and longevity to the textile’s life. We will learn about the origins of the technique, the basics of how to Sashiko stitch, and then apply our new knowledge to patch, reinforce and add stitches to a garment you bring to class.

Students should bring:
– a garment in need of mending (something with holes or where the fabric is weakening), or a garment the student would like to decorate through stitching
– a thimble, if the student prefers to use one

Instructor will provide:
– Sashiko thread
– needles and needle threader
– disappearing ink marking pen
– fabric squares

General Age Policy:
All classes are for adults (18+) unless otherwise noted.

Class Minimums:
Be aware we may cancel 5 days before class date if a minimum number of registrations not reached. We work to balance teachers' need to plan for a class with students' busy schedules -- not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
