An interest in healthy eating and cooking for her young family led Tanna Worrell to search out information about foraging and natural foods. Her thorough knowledge and passion to teach others about foraging is reflected in the glowing reports from her previous class participants. We’re pleased to welcome her back this summer.
Join Tanna during each month of the growing season as she shares her knowledge about wild edible and medicinal plants. The primary focus of each session will be to discuss what plants are currently available and where they are typically located. Tanna will bring examples of many of the plants she will be discussing. Participants will learn how to ethically forage, how to identify various plants, learn what parts of the plants are edible and then spend time preparing and cooking delicious recipes, and/or making a folk medicine salve, tincture or infused oil. If the weather cooperates, Tanna will also take time to lead the group for a short walk in the local woods to look for available plants.
Participants will leave the class with a handout highlighting the season’s edible and medicinal plants and recipes. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase a set of forager information cards with details and pictures about plants commonly found in the St. Croix Valley.
Tanna will be teaching on the following dates, please join her for all sessions if you can, as different plants will be featured depending upon the month:
- July 18 (this class)
- August 15 – take a field trip to her home woods in St. Croix Falls, WI
- September 19
Note: Children 12 and under may attend for free, with a participating adult– one child per adult.
Students to bring:
- Apron
