In this introduction to the Norwegian craft of Skinnfell, participants will create a wood block-printed sheepskin chair pad which can also be used as a wall hanging. We will discuss the traditional use of Skinnfell and the symbolism of the motifs to impart goodwill to the user. Options for stitched and non-stitched edgings will be discussed. Stitching can be started in class and completed at home.
Ages 15 and up. No previous experience needed.
Instructor will provide:
- a pre-cut 14'' x 14" sheepskin
- four 14" x 1" sheepskin strips
- leather sewing needle
- metal clips
- use of wood blocks
- marking tape
- class handout
- leather thimble
- eye glasses (if you need them)
- any favorite stamps you may want to use
