In this introduction to the Norwegian craft of Skinnfell, participants will create a wood block-printed sheepskin chair pad which can also be used as a wall hanging. We will discuss the traditional use of Skinnfell and the symbolism of the motifs to impart goodwill to the user. Options for stitched and non-stitched edgings will be discussed. Stitching can be started in class and completed at home.

Ages 15 and up. No previous experience needed.

Instructor will provide:

  • a pre-cut 14'' x 14" sheepskin
  • four 14" x 1" sheepskin strips
  • leather sewing needle
  • thread
  • metal clips
  • use of wood blocks
  • paints
  • marking tape
  • class handout
Students should bring: 
  • pencil
  • leather thimble
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • eye glasses (if you need them)
  • any favorite stamps you may want to use
