Hanji, Korea’s amazing handmade paper, has provided both usefulness and beauty to Korean culture for well over a thousand years. The paper’s strength makes it ideal for papercutting, as well as calligraphy, painting, and so much more.

After a brief introduction to hanji, participants will spend the morning cutting hanji to cover the outside of a wood vase, choosing from a rainbow of colors. Next, they’ll hand-cut designs and embellishments for the vases. The instructors will have some cut designs on hand, as well. The instructors will make a traditional paste for adhering the paper to the vase. We’ll break for lunch, giving the vases a chance to dry a bit. We’ll spend the early afternoon with a hands-on floral arranging class. Everyone goes home with a one-of-a-kind arrangement in a unique wood vase, and a new appreciation for Korean hanji.

Kids 12 and up are welcome to register for this class as long as they are accompanied by an adult also registered for the class.
