Featured ‘Big Read’ Online Class: Intro to Traditional Hmong Embroidery

Minnesotan author Kao Kalia Yang’s book ‘The Latehomecomer‘ has been chosen as one of the national NEA Big Read recommended books this year!  ArtReach, Marine Mills Folk School and other local organizations are offering a series of events as part of the Big Read program of the St. Croix Valley.

Learn basic embroidery stitches, then create your own work of art!  The traditional embroidery Paj Ntaub (pa’dau) reflects the culture and stories of Hmong people, dating back several centuries.  Join Yee Yang as she shares some of the cultural traditions and history of this traditional skill while guiding each participant in the creation of a paj ntaub design.  Each participant will received a mailed kit with everything needed to get started learning this traditional skill, be sure to register early to receive the kit before the class date of June 6.
