Marine on St. Croix, MN – June 6, 2019 Marine Mills Folk School today announced the receipt of a generous grant from the Whitson Fund of the St. Paul Foundation. The grant will be used as a scholarship fund for students of the traditional arts & crafts educational center in Marine on St. Croix.
“Our hands-on folk school provides opportunities for talented local artists and teachers to share their knowledge of traditional skills, while at the same helping them supplement their income,” noted Jane Norbin, Board member. “We wanted to ensure there was no financial barrier to any lifelong learner who wanted to enroll in a hands-on arts & craft class. We are especially grateful to the Whitson Fund for agreeing to provide these scholarship funds.” The folk school teaches traditional skill classes such as wood paddle building and weaving. Primarily aimed at adult learners, the school also features classes for intergenerational teams of adults with children. These new scholarship funds will be available for those who self-identify needing some support to afford the classes. All requests will be considered.
