Intergenerational Learning

A grandmother and grandson working together cutting vegetables. A mother and daughter learning together to knit. In the lead up to this holiday season our class participants were reminded of the joy that is found simply by sharing an experience. Sharing the fun of learning, and sharing the difficulties of problem solving. In addition, younger students observed and absorbed the friendship and humor between adults who had come to learn together. You can’t help but enjoy the laughter of two long-time friends giving each other grief about some knitting goof, or sharing laughs over some past adventure gone momentarily wrong. Kids see adults working collaboratively and simply enjoying each other’s company, modeling skills and behavior to the younger students in a supportive, warm setting.

All of us at Marine Mills Folk School hope your holiday season was full of shared moments of friendship and laughter. Best wishes for a Happy New Year!
